TEAM BUILDING SUGGESTIONS
Steps for a Successful Corporate Team

Contact Megan Casey (mcasey@jdrf.org) at the JDRF office by calling 822-5336 if you would like to set up a meeting to discuss how your company could benefit from having a walk team. We can discuss how some of the below suggestions might work for your company.

If your business is interested in sponsoring the walk please print and fax this form.

PARTICIPATING IN THE WALK MAKES GOOD BUSINESS SENSE

• Corporate teams build team spirit and camaraderie – a great chance to work together on a non-work related project.
• Corporate team t-shirts send the message to the community that your company cares. It also gives you high visibility while providing a good incentive to participate.
• Your presence at the walk provides you with the opportunity to send a positive corporate image to the community while engaging your employees in a healthy activity.
• The Walk is a family oriented event, which encourages employees to participate under the umbrella of the company while involving spouses, children, and friends.

RECOMMENDED GOAL

• Team walker target: 20% participation of employee base for big companies
• $100 pledge average (10 friends each giving $10 = $100)

• Recruit multiple Team Captains by department or floor
• Have all Team Captains attend the super-fun and free Team Captains Kick-off Luncheon in August
• Consider holding an “All Team Captains Meeting” after the Kickoff Luncheon at your company to discuss goals/actions/progress of team

INTERNAL COMMUNICATION

• JDRF staff and/or volunteer discuss diabetes and WALK TO CURE DIABETES participation
• Team Captains discuss internal goals and incentives
• Viewing of the JDRF WALK video

INTERNAL INCENTIVES

• Company Team T-shirts
• Incentive prizes that recognize: top individual fundraiser, top fundraising Team Captains, top fundraising department/team, raffle prize for walkers raising over $100 (or over $500)
• Ideas for incentive prizes include:
  1) Parking space for a week/month
  2) Group pizza party
  3) Sporting event/Concert tickets
  4) Half or full day off
  5) Special casual day
  6) Executive job swap/car wash/other

APPROACH VENDORS TO PARTICIPATE

Send a letter to vendors to solicit them to either1) Walk on your company’s team; 2) Support your team through donations; or 3) Support your team by donating incentive prizes for your team’s top fundraisers.

MATCHING GIFT OPPORTUNITIES

Research and discuss opportunities for Matching Gifts within corporate guidelines. Matching gifts is a great incentive for walkers to participate and raises more dollars for diabetes research.
